DESCRIPTION: At 241 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Upper Arlington, moving east at 55 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and penny size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Expect damage to trees and power lines. Locations impacted include... Port Columbus Airport, East Ringgold, Alum Creek State Park, Interstate 71 at State Route 38, Dublin, Gahanna, Upper Arlington, Sunbury, Clintonville, Westerville, Warrensburg, Center Village, Madison Mills, Worthington, Kilbourne, Hilliard, Midway, New California, Grandview Heights, and Whitehall. This includes the following Interstates... I-70 in Ohio between mile markers 85 and 111. I-71 in Ohio between mile markers 66 and 138.
INSTRUCTION: For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature's leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Cumulus clouds are fluffy and textured with rounded tops, and
may have flat bottoms. The border of a cumulus cloud
is clearly defined, and can have the appearance of cotton or cauliflower.
Cumulus clouds form at low altitudes (rarely above 2 km) but can grow very tall,
becoming cumulus congestus and possibly the even taller cumulonimbus clouds.
When cumulus clouds become taller, they have a greater chance of producing precipitation.
